Durham Christmas Market

Nathan and I braved the cold weather and headed into town for the Durham Christmas market. We saw our friend Darius, on the left, busking and threw some change in his violin case. Darius cooked us the most amazing Hungarian meal last night. He's such a good cook. Thanks Darius!

Another busker - this time a bagpiping Santa Claus. Notice Nathan in the background.

There are some great Christmas decorations in town right now. I can't wait to show my mom and dad, who will be here in SIX DAYS!!!

I felt so sorry for these little ponies taking laps around the Palace Green. I couldn't handle all of those bratty kids plus a Santa slave driver in the snow.

We went to the cathedral to settle a debate. On our way out a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was surprised to see rosaries in the gift shop. Nathan didn't believe me. We went back in and I showed him the goods behind a glass case. He said, "There is no way that this church would sell those. No way. This is a stronghold of Anglicanism. Those aren't rosaries. Those are just little necklaces with beads and a cross with Jesus on it. "

"Nathan, those by definition are rosaries."

Nathan wanted to confront the gift shop worker and ask if this was true, but I escaped before being completely embarrassed. I know what I saw! Anyway, this has kept coming up the past few weeks, so we went back.

Immediately, Nathan walked in and asked, "Do you have any rosaries?"

"Sure, they're just over here," the clerk said, pointing to the same glass case I showed him last time.

Victory is mine! I thought.

"Hm. That's disappointing. I thought the Reformation addressed that."

And with that I dashed out of the shop. It was only until he came out a few moments later when I raised my arms in triumph and declared, "I guess the Reformation didn't make it into the gift shop."

This picture was taken before I was proven correct. That smile quickly faded when we emerged.

On our way back down the hill, I said to Nathan, "I like that red dress." Do you know what he said? He said, "I could see you wearing that and Courtney wearing the green one." Isn't that so cute? Courtney, you would love it. It has feathers on one shoulder. I took the picture for you.

You seriously make me laugh out loud when I read your posts! I think about you so often, and, I know I've said it before, but I LOVE that you so consistently post your adventures on here. I had a dream about you a few nights ago. I dreamt that you hadn't left for the UK yet, and I had to say goodbye, and I totally lost it. Sad! I guess I really must miss you! On a happier note, my friend Christina and I were watching YouTube videos a couple nights ago and we watched the health care commercial with the cute little black boy doing karate and checking out his muscles in the end--"Oh they're growing now! They're really growing now!" It made me think of Nathan and smile. Love you guys!!!

Oh my goodness, I love it and I wish that it were true! We're having our Christmas party this weekend (first in the new house) and demanding that everyone get dressed up so that would be the perfect occasion. I didn't send y'all the invitation since there was (obviously) no way you could make it, but I think I'll send it to you now just because you will be so missed. When y'all come back, maybe I can hire Nathan to be my personal shopper :)
