Daylight Savings Walk

If there's one thing Nathan and I consistently fuss about, it's getting to church on time.  We're about equally responsible for our tardiness, but it's either one or the other of us that is running late, never both.  Last night Nathan said to me as much as himself, "That's IT!  No excuses.  We're going to make it to church on time in the morning.  We're out the door by 10, do you understand?"

Never mind that it starts at 10:30 and we live a mere five minutes' walk away.

Anyway, I set my alarm for 8:47 but ended up getting up at 8:30 so I would have plenty of time to shower and eat breakfast.  I was ready for church and calmly munching on my chocolate croissant (Tesco is still out of plain, so I had to get the chocolate filled ones) at 9:55 when Nathan stormed down the steps from the study loft and into the shower.

At 10:10 we were out the door, and no one was happier than Nathan.  "Can you believe it?  We're actually going to be early for church this morning!"  We strolled hand in hand up to the school where the church meets.  As we approached it, we saw one of the church associates coming out of the building with the church's banner and he said, "Either you two are mega keen to get to church early, or you forgot about daylight savings time."

So, in our effort to be early to church, we ended up being quite early, an hour and 15 minutes early to be exact.  In order to kill time, we decided to take a walk around the city.  The fall colors are just beautiful right now, and it was a perfect autumn temperature.

Here is my handsome husband, trying to look casual.

Here is my handsome husband, trying to look really casual.

Here I am pouting over the fact that I left the cap off of an ink pen in the brand new bag I custom ordered from Etsy.  I discovered it when I got the camera out just then.  The black stain is next to my right hand.  Sniff sniff...

Not to be out-pouted, here is Nathan pouting about the new grey hair he's grown since we arrived.  I think it's amazing.

We passed by Durham School, an old English private boarding school, and Nathan thought it would be a good idea to trespass since the gate was open.  He's often accused  me of not being very adventurous (I still cringe thinking about TPing people's houses in middle school.  I was the one in the van saying,"Hey guys?  I don't think this is a good idea, guys."), so wanting to disprove his assertion, I agreed to go in with him.

We saw this chapel at the top of the hill, so we climbed up to the top to see it.

When we turned around, this is what we saw.  What a gorgeous view of the Cathedral!

I think this may be this year's Christmas card picture, so act surprised when it comes in the mail, okay?

Here is my handsome husband being handsome.

On the way down, we saw this curved window on the second floor.  Interesting!

I have to say that after being ridiculously early and the subsequent walk, we arrived back at the church building a few minutes before the service started.  However, Nathan got to talking in the foyer (of course) and we ended up being seated after the initial welcome.

Sigh... I think some things will never change.

Love it! This is a typical ordinary event turned into an entertaining Nicole story. I really hope I get to meet Nathan sometime soon. I'm guessing there would be lots of hearty laughter. Am I right?

I love that you say TPing. That's what I grew up saying and when I moved to Auburn and heard of the tradition of "rolling" Toomer's Corner after a victory, I had some pretty crazy ideas of what that meant...None of them were anywhere close to TPing.
