Hiya pet, ya ahreet? Ah ye shoowah? Proppa knackuhed, me. It'd be dead good if yahs would give these vidyoes a loook heeyah like fo' uss. Wicked.
That was my Geordie accent. Did you hear it? :) Here's my translation:
Hi friend. Are you well? Are you sure? I'm officially tired. It would be really good if you would watch these videos for me. Cool.
This is a funny poem about Newcastle spoken in the local dialect. He says a bad word or two, but you probably won't even recognize it when you hear it. I'm proud to say that I can understand about 90% of this. Woohoo!
This girl... These are the kind of girls I met doing supply teaching. The look, the accent, the lilt in the voice, everything. The way her voice changes pitch about five times in two seconds (0:06-0:08) is so, so Geordie. The video is just of her saying common words, like sure (shoowah). It's interesting.
Lastly, I nicked this off of Luke Graham's Facebook page. Two English guys explore Wal-Mart for the first time. Amazing!
Enjoy the videos. Happy Friday. Love from the Northeast!

Love the WalMart video. Kind of embarrassing the amount of one stop shopping we have!! Also, are you sure the poem was in english? I think I understood the word "Hi" and "scottish." That was it.
This reminds me of The Secret Garden when they talk about Martha speaking broad Yorkshire. Is Yorkshire different? It always takes my students awhile to figure out the dialect as they read. I can't imagine having to understand it while teaching, but I bet you get used to it eventually.
HAHA. I love the Walmart video!!! The first two videos sounded like those dudes we met on the train coming back from Scotland. Hilarious!
That Wal-Mart video is hilarious!!! "No, you put your tea in a petrol jug." And the composition book matching his shirt. So so funny!
This is so great!! Thanks for sharing -- it makes me miss you and Nathan and that cute little barn of yours.
Love the videos, it was great to watch them right before bed. Now I'll go to sleep wondering if I'll ever understand what people are saying in Northern England :)
I would like to have those two guys' take on any number of American phenomena. Tremendously funny. Do you know them, or did you just stumble upon their site?
Jeff, I just found the video on another English friend's FB wall. I think they're hilarious. :)
