Amy, Sam, and I have had a great time hanging around Durham the past few days, and we're eager to hop over to Ireland tomorrow, but FIRST we're having an impromptu 4th of July party. Ironically, most of our American friends are back home or travelling, so the four of us at the North Barn will be entertaining the Redcoats tonight.
The girls brought us decorations and all the fixin's for s'mores. Even thought we don't have a fire pit, we've decided to make the s'more nachos like in the picture I posted yesterday. This morning we put our flag out, and as our landlord walked by, he said, "I don't know where in the lease it says you can fly foreign flags!"
We have a YouTube playlist set up with all kinds of patriotic songs and slide shows of our land from sea to shining sea. We'll start out with Whitney Houston's version of the national anthem from 1991, and we'll end the evening with a fireworks display from Disneyland. We've got to work with what we've got! As I type, Amy is busy organizing the prizes for our upcoming patriotic song karaoke contest and taping a paper eagle above our clock.
Our British friends have warned that they will also be coming in their red, white, and blue. Our Englishman friend Sam will probably show up in his Union Jack cape. Perhaps we'll stage a battle outside and have The Patriot playing on the TV. We have it on VHS. This is going to be great!
Hopefully, I'll have time to post pictures of tonight's shenanigans before our flight tomorrow, but this eye candy from Pinterest can tide you over until then. :) In the mean time, I'm waiting for my family to wake up on the West Coast so we can chat on Skype. I'm feeling quite patriotic as well as homesick today.
