British Sign Language (BSL)

As we were leaving the British Museum, I noticed that the front desk was selling audio tours in different languages. They even had video tours in British Sign Language! Since the museum was almost closed, there wasn't really a line, so I asked the man working there if I might be able to look at the BSL video guide. It looked like a black iPod and had a touch screen with over 200 different descriptions of artifacts.

I find the best way to describe BSL is with an analogy. British English : American English :: British Sign Language : American Sign Language. The basics are the same, but sometimes it's hard to understand one another's "accents."

Cool, huh!

Appropriately enough, I should now wish my brother, Matthew, a happy birthday!
